6 Students, Driver Injured In Morning School Bus Crash In Watertown: Officials

Six students and a driver are in the hospital following a school bus crash in Watertown, school officials said.

The crash happened in the area of Belmont and Lexington streets just after 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 19, Superintendent of Watertown Public Schools Dede Galdston said in a statement.

Forty-four elementary school students were on the bus at the time of the crash. Motorists were being told to avoid the area as a result.

All students were said to have suffered minor injuries and are expected to recover, Galdston added. Uninjured students were waiting for their parents to pick them up, according to Boston25.

"All students impacted were well cared for, and for that we are grateful," Galdston continued. "As you can imagine, this was a frightening experience for our students on the bus, and we will be continually checking in with them over the coming days to offer whatever support is needed.

Watertown Police said solar glare was a factor involved in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
